Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone dismissed the threat of a U.S. Grand Prix boycott on Saturday after cash-strapped smaller teams suggested they could take drastic action to push their demands for more money.

"Forget all that crap. I promise you they will be racing (tomorrow)," the 84-year-old told reporters after qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas. "They will be racing, I give you an absolute guarantee.

"I'm worried if they are going to be racing next year," added the Briton.

Force India deputy principal Bob Fernley had told Reuters earlier that all options were open for teams fighting for survival in a paddock that has already seen Marussia and Caterham disappear since the previous race in Russia.

"Nothing is off the table at this point," Fernley said. "Everything and anything is possible. The team owners need themselves to sit down and decide what actions they want to take and then make sure everybody is informed properly."

House of Commons' Transport Committee must launch a public inquiry of proposed regulatory change that will put airline passengers at risk

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Mar 26, 2014) - CUPE and its Airline Division are asking MPs on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities to immediately study a regulatory change that will put airline passengers at risk. Transport Canada wants to let airlines reduce the number of flight attendants onboard some aircraft without any involvement by Parliamentarians.

"Transport Canada is willing to take a chance on the safety and security of airline passengers. Are you?" asked Michel Cournoyer, president of CUPE Airline Division, to members of the committee.

After granting exemptions from the current flight attendant staffing regulation to WestJet and Sunwing last year, Transport Canada now wants to let all airlines decide what standard they will apply on their aircrafts, the current ratio of 1 flight attendant for every 40 passengers or a new ratio of 1 flight attendant for every 50 passenger seats.

"Flight attendants are deeply concerned about the proposed change. Transport Canada has caved in to the airlines by proposing to go ahead with a regulatory change allowing for fewer flight attendants on commercial passenger flights. Lowering the standard was consistently rejected by former Conservative Transport Ministers Lawrence Cannon and John Baird for safety reasons. What's changed? Certainly not the reality on board an aircraft in an emergency situation," said Cournoyer. "Many aircraft will have at least one less flight attendant on board at full passenger loads. This will put passenger safety at risk, especially in the event of an evacuation or other emergency situation."

A slender funnel cloud passed over the refining hub of Texas City, Texas, on Monday but never touched down, the city's emergency management director said.

"There's no damage due to the funnel," said Derek Duckett, Texas City emergency management director. "I was watching it. The funnel came halfway down to the ground. It never touched the ground."

Asked specifically if any of the refineries in Texas City reported damage, Duckett said, "No, none. None's been reported."

The funnel, which spun up shortly before 1 p.m. CDT (1800 GMT) moved over the southeast side of Texas City before passing over Galveston Bay, Duckett said.

Texas City is home to three refineries, two of which are owned by Marathon Petroleum Corp - the 80,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Texas City refinery and the 451,000-bpd Galveston Bay refinery.

Arab Bank was aware that it was processing wire transfers from a Saudi Arabian charity to the families of “martyrs” of the second Palestinian Intifada against Israel, according to deposition testimony from the bank’s global head of operations, played Thursday for jurors in a terrorism finance trial against the bank in federal district court in Brooklyn. Lawyers for nearly 300 American victims of Hamas attacks on Israel between 2000 and 2004 also aired deposition testimony in which they confronted three executives from Arab Bank’s Palestinian operations with evidence the bank was apprised that at least three of those “martyrs” killed themselves in civilian bombings.

The three officials said that they always followed the bank’s policies and procedures for transferring money from correspondent banks. But a former Arab Bank compliance executive from the London branch said in a deposition also played Thursday for the jury in Brooklyn that if he had seen the materials sent to those officials – including charts listing the cause of death of three of the men whose families were slated to receive wire transfers as “martyr operations” – he would not have processed the transfers.

“If this had arrived in London, which one never did in my experience, we would have immediately commissioned probably a multiple suspicious activity report, because this is something which we were most unused to dealing with,” testified former Arab Bank compliance official David Blackmore.

Blackmore’s testimony seemed designed to undercut Arab Bank’s primary defense, which is that its Palestinian branches engaged in nothing more than routine banking operations when they paid out about $100 million – about $40 million of it in cash over the counter – from the Saudi Committee for the Support of Intifada Al Quds, in money transfers via the Saudi-based Arab National Bank. Arab Bank’s lawyer, Shand Stephens of DLA Piper, told jurors in opening arguments earlier this month that the bank used standard banking compliance software to make sure that it was not processing payments to globally designated terrorists. (Four transactions in which Arab Bank did put funds in the hands of identified terrorists were “by mistake,” Stephens said in opening arguments.)

German exchange operator Deutsche Boerse's said its operating profit more than doubled in the third quarter, helped by a increased trading activity, and flattered by the absence of legal expenses which had burdened the year-earlier quarter.

Quarterly earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) came in at 232.5 million euros ($295 million), beating an average expectation of 219 million euros in a Reuters poll of banks and brokerages, and up from 101 million euros a year earlier.

Revenue at the Xetra cash market segment dipped when compared to the year-earlier period but market activity had picked up in recent months, the company said on Monday.

Gregor Pottmeyer, Deutsche Boerse AG's chief financial officer said, "Trading activity on the group's markets picked up significantly at the end of the third quarter."

An increase in revenue at Eurex, the derivatives segment, and at Clearstream, the post-trade segment, as well as more growth in the Market Data + Services segment further helped boost results.
